It’s a Chicken or the Egg thing…

In a random conversation today, an associate equated courting a vendor to conducting a romance. “It’s all just sales, right?” he said.

That being said… here’s where I’m stuck:

Is a person bad at romance because of a lack of sales skills? Or is a person weak at sales because of a lack of romantic experience?

Does “romancing” a prospective customer or supplier take the same basic skills as being in an emotional or physical relationship?

If this is all true, should proof of a long-term personal relationship be a prerequisite for a sales job?

Taking it to the illogical extreme, will the poor salesperson always end up a lonely schlub?

Discuss.
